Return to School Plan Update - April 1, 2021

April 1, 2021
Dear Teaneck Parents/Guardians, Students & Staff,
Tomorrow is the start of our “no homework” spring break. I know we are all looking forward to this well-deserved time off; but before we safely enjoy time with our family and friends, let me share a few quick updates with you:
  1. We are very appreciative of our partnerships with Holy Name Medical Center and the Teaneck Township as they helped to provide a convenient way for our staff to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.  Many of our staff took advantage of this opportunity - which we view as a critical step towards a return to a more “normal” school day.  These staff members will be receiving their second shot during the spring break week and the week after.
  2. Planning is underway for the last two school months of this year. It is my hope to share some good news later this month about either an extended school day (from the previous half day in-person schedule) or about offering more than a two day/week in-person option. The new CDC school guidelines on “3 feet vs. 6 feet social distancing of desks” will certainly help us; but we are also closely watching COVID-19 cases after the spring break timeframe. This is why we will be ALL VIRTUAL the week of April 12, in order to keep the number of cases down upon our return.  Additionally, all of our staff will be tested for COVID-19 before returning to their respective schools/district offices on April 19.
  3. We are also making plans for several summer offerings including our summer camp program (Camp K - which will run from June 28 - August 6, for grades k - 6) and a districtwide Summer IMPACT Academy that will provide academic support, social emotional support and enrichment opportunities (July 6 - August 3, for grades 1 - 12).  More information will be coming on these programs over the next few weeks.
In closing, I want to wish all who are celebrating, a Happy Passover and a Happy Easter.  Please take this time to relax and unwind - but most of all, please continue to stay safe! This pandemic is not over and we want to close this year on a positive note.
Best regards,

Dr. Christopher Irving, Superintendent of Schools
